AccessFIX save process

During the save process, AccessFIX may need to connect to some external components. The connection is made using a Windows technology called COM (Component Object Model). The external components are:

  • Database Engine. Used to save tables and queries.
  • Microsoft Access. Used to save forms, reports, modules and macros.

Database Engine

Used by AccessFIX to save tables and queries.

This is the only component required by AccessFIX Standard or if only tables and queries are being saved.

AccessFIX includes a DAO 4.0 Database Engine that will be used if you don't have another version installed on your system. In most cases this will be enough unless your database contains new 2007+ complex fields.

Installing the Database Engine

If you need to install it, these are the download pages at www.microsoft.com. Important: you must choose the 32-bit (or x86) version:

If you experience compatibility issues between the Database Engine and your current Microsoft Access installation, a quick fix might be to install it on a different computer. This is a redistributable component that can be freely installed anywhere.

Microsoft Access

Used by AccessFIX to save forms, reports, modules and macros.

Microsoft Access is not required to save tables and/or queries. It is only required for saving forms, reports, modules and macros.

If AccessFIX cannot detect your Access installation, it may be because you have installed the 64-bit version. AccessFIX can only connect to 32-bit COM components. This setting, 32-bit or 64-bit, can be selected during the Access installation.
